It seems every time we turn around there’s a new weight loss product hitting the market and a whole lot of people rushing out to buy it in hope of shedding those extra pounds. For the most part, many of these products are little more than hype doing nothing to help you loose excess weight. But what if we knew what the real weight loss secret was? Wouldn’t you want to know? Omega 3 fatty acids – yes it seems fish is once again in the news as researchers discover that fish fatty acids can help people burn off the pounds, and as an added bonus it can improve your memory and even your learning.

Its best results were seen with obese people, where it helped burn off the extra weight. It’s the Omega 3 fatty acids found in fish oil that have been isolated as being responsible for its fat burning ability. It works by improving the blood flow to the muscles during exercise.

Here’s the key – you need to combine it with exercise to get the best results for fat loss. One research study shoed that those that exercised and took fish oil lost an average of 4 and a 1/2 pounds over the three months and yet they were eating exactly the same as before. So there were no calorie counting, no elimination of fats or carbs. The exercise programs were also moderate consisting of 45 minutes of walking three times a week.

The control group took no Omega 3 fatty acids (fish oil) but instead were fed sunflower oil, and exercised the same as the Omega 3 fatty acids group. The sunflower oil group did not lose any weight. The two groups that did not exercise, one taking Omega 3 fatty acids, the other sunflower oil – neither group lost any weight.

So what is the message here? The message is that Omega 3 fish oils appear to be a powerful tool in weight loss “when” it is combined with moderate exercise. The amount of weight loss per month could be significantly increased by also monitoring diet.

A diet low in refined sugars, simple carbs, and saturated fat is going to show a much more significant weight loss than one that does not follow these simple guidelines.

Whether you are obese or simply need to lose a few pounds you should consider adding Omega 3 fatty acid supplements to your diet, or increase your intake of fresh fish. Remember fish can be high in toxins so know what you are buying is safe.

Weight loss doesn’t happen overnight. It’s important that you take a common sense, safe approach to your weight loss so that as you shed the pounds you remain healthy, as well as look and feel great! And this tip is so easy to put into practice too.
